Our rather ambitious plan for the day was to visit the arches of Arcomagno Beach in the Tyrrhenian Sea on the Riviera dei Cedri during late afternoon light and still get to Pompeii before dark. After a few wrong turns, we found our way to Arcomagno beach. There we found a gated set of stairs that up to a bridge and then down the other side to a viewpoint of the arch. Unfortunately (or fortunately) it was locked and would not be open for a couple of weeks. After talking to a lifeguard and a nearby bartender, we managed to rent a paddleboat and were able to paddle to Arco Mango and a second arch, both bathed in warm afternoon light. At the time, I was unaware of Cynny’s fear of paddle boats, she having been rescued once when renting one. We made it to Pompeii at dusk but couldn’t find our B&B. The owner had communicated its location on WhatsApp., but I didn’t have Wi-Fi and hadn’t checked it recently (Remember texting and email?). Eventually I dropped Cynny off on a street corner where we promised to find each other again someday, and off she went to find it while I circled the crowded streets. Turns out It was set back from the road and (ironically) you had to drive through a narrow archway to find it. Eventually, we did and thus began the historical segment of our trip.
